In A Demon Haunted World
This song was born from a moment of reflection, remembering the brilliance of Carl Sagan, one of my earliest influences. Sagan didn’t just teach science; he illuminated wonder. He showed us that the universe needs no gods to run it, and certainly none to create it. Through his work, I came to understand that spirituality isn’t about obedience to ancient texts it’s about awe and the search for meaning in a vast, indifferent cosmos. He taught me that skepticism is sacred, that truth is a moving target worth chasing, and that we are, each of us, capable of finding purpose without mythology. This song is my small tribute to the clarity he offered in a world still haunted by demons of our own making.
Verse
In a demon haunted world
Where Satan wears a crown
You tremble in the darkness
And call it holy ground
Chorus
I saw you grasp for meaning
On wires that nearly broke
I watched you climbing mountains
Made of mirrors and of smoke
The crown that Satan wears
Is carved into your fear
In every prayer you whisper
It keeps the darkness near
Verse
In a demon haunted world
Where only god can save you
Holding doubt’s the biggest sin
Religion has enslaved you
Chorus
I saw you grasp for meaning
On wires that nearly broke
I watched you climbing mountains
Made of mirrors and of smoke
The crown that Satan wears
Is carved into your fear
In every prayer you whisper
It keeps the darkness near
Verse
In a demon haunted world
Only blind belief can save
The alter holds no answers
And faith becomes the grave
Bridge
I tried to name the silence
It echoed back your voice
You called it holy terror
And said you had no choice
But freedom isn’t mercy
And truth won’t beg to stay
It waits beyond the threshold
For those who walk away
Outro
No gods, no chains, no masters
I thought my own way out
