Crumbs at the Feast

In this song, I attempt to confront how calculated division among the disempowered keeps the powerful untouched and well-fed. Beneath the surface lies a chilling truth: we now crave the conflict that was designed to distract us, even as a fascist regime consolidates control. Has the chasm between us grown too wide to mend. The feast has already begun without us, and we are busy fighting of scraps.

Verse
What are we now; is this all we can be?
Lines drawn in the sand, it’s you against me
There’s nothing but anger filling the void
How long can we do this before we’re destroyed?
How did we get here, is this how it ends?
Our children are dying; there are no amends
We’re caught in their cycle while we’re being fleeced
We fight over crumbs while they join in the feast

Pre-Chorus
Sow seeds of hate, the political way
Keep us divided and lead us astray

Chorus
Why do we fight when we all bleed the same?
Why do we play these political games?
We have all loved, we have all lost
We’ve seen the wars and what they have cost
We carry hope, we carry shame
Still caught in a war that they’ll never name

Verse
We are controlled by their lies, and their oppression
Blind to the fact that it’s now our obsession
We seek out the division, it’s in our blood now
And we never questioned when they taught us to bow
It’s time we saw the truth within each human heart
Nothing that’s important is keeping us apart
We need to see that differences are what make us strong
We need to find it in ourselves to know we all belong

Bridge
Our children wake at dawn screens held in their hands
Scrolling news of shootings - not in foreign lands
Yet we debate as their futures are sold
By those who feast on us and hoard the gold

Outro
Let’s end this fight
Let’s end this shame
Tear down the lies
and end their game
Let’s break down walls
Hear truth when it calls
Same struggles, same pain
We are so much the same
