The Void Between Us

This song was born from my reflections on the deep chasm dividing this country and the quiet devastation of having your voice taken away. There was a time when thoughtful conversations about politics, science, even religion were possible. Today, those same conversations often end in anger, silence, or tears.

What’s missing is empathy. Without it, we are lost.

I wrote this song in response to the gleeful ignorance I see from those who wear the red hats—celebrating what they believe are victories, blind to the fact that these are profound losses. Losses they won’t recognize until it’s too late, when their own voices have been stripped away.

This is not just a lament. It’s a reckoning.

Verse
Is it ignorance or is it fear?
Can you tell me why you’ve lost your mind?
Why this sudden need to define
The world in only black and white?

Chorus
I remember when people cared
When what someone felt truly mattered
We marched against injustice
We waged our wars with words
The feeling of knowing when I spoke
Someone truly heard

Verse
You say you know what you want
And you say it with your vote
But you’re drilling holes in our boat
And now we’ll all go down together

Chorus
I remember when voices were heard
And silence wasn’t the default
We cared about truth over pride
And we fought with words not guns
Don’t read my silence as consent
‘Cause I won’t stay silent much longer

Verse
Well I know what you really want
But you need to say it with your vote
You want freedom, justice, and peace
And you want to stay afloat

Bridge
I’ve stayed quiet long enough
Held my tongue to keep the peace
But with every word I didn’t say
The ignorance in you increased

Outro
I won’t shout to make you hear
I know you will not disappear
I found my voice in all the noise
Where countless lies set to destroy
You may not change, you may not see
But that no longer silences me
