The True Believer

I wrote this song because of the frustration I feel with the many, many people who claim they have special knowledge when all they have is willful ignorance, lack of critical thinking, and arrogance. I will never understand why people living in the 21st century, who drive cars, use computers, use electricity daily, ride in airplanes, look at amazing images taken by the JWST of objects billions of light years away, and have smartphones that carry more computing power than the entire Apollo 11 mission had at its disposal insist on believing every stupid bit of conspiracy nonsense they read.

Verse
He read how distant aliens
Built all the ancient ruins
And lizard people underground
Control the institutions

Pre-Chorus
He knows the earth is flat
On the moon we did not land
He believes in everything
But he’ll never understand

Chorus
He’ll never understand what’s true
That life evolved right here
Whales used to walk on land
The proof will never disappear

Verse
Climate change to him is fake
Not caused by man completely
Vaccines he says Bill Gates has made
To control our minds obliquely

Pre-Chorus
He knows the earth is flat
On the moon we did not land
He believes in everything
But he’ll never understand

Chorus
He’ll never understand what’s true
That the universe expands
From physics we are yet to know
And not by some god’s hand

Bridge
And finally it happened
His wife now trusts the science
His friends stopped sending links
As the forums fade to silence
The world is based on science
But to him it feels like treason
He falls behind, still faithful
As he clings to anti-reason

Outro
He whispers to the walls
As if they understood
But silence fills the empty night
His kind is gone for good
