Life’s a Dark Comedy
These lyrics were inspired by my husband who, one morning a few months ago, said, “You should write a song about how life is a dark comedy.” He had suggested a few ideas before, but this one really struck me as different and interesting. So, I decided to take up the challenge.
The lyrics weave together absurd theater and bittersweet humor, painting life as both performance and parody. Empty rooms, forgotten lines, and ironic applause capture the tension between tragedy and laughter, reminding us that even our flaws can become part of the show.
At its heart, the song invites listeners to see themselves as players in the same comedy—sometimes stumbling, sometimes shining, but always part of the ensemble. It’s both a wink and a sigh, a reminder that the joke belongs to all of us.
Verse
If all the world’s a stage
We each have parts to play
Forgetting lines and missing cues
Laughing at the bad reviews
Chorus
The script was written
The players cast
One enters slow
Another leaves fast
I look around, it’s plain to see
Life is a dark, dark comedy
Verse
Sitting in an empty room
I have no lines to say
Just waiting for the next applause
While I ponder all my flaws
Bridge
We’ve shared our lives together
On this cosmic stage
We’re not there yet
But getting closer
To the seventh age
So when the curtain falls
And the lights go dim
We’ll know the joke’s on us
But in the end, we win
Outro
I look around, it’s plain to see
Life is a dark, dark comedy
With all its senseless tragedy
The laugh belongs to you and me
Cause all the world’s a stage, you see
