Before the Snow Falls
This is the November song I meant to write one day when my brain had other plans and I wrote “In Autumn’s Glow” for my husband. I love all the seasons. When pressed, I have to say Autumn. As a child, I always had a love-hate relationship with Winter because it meant the end of my favorite season and living in the Pacific Northwest, it mostly rained. It rained a lot. And when it wasn’t raining, it was gray. Dark, dark gray. Snow was scarce, but when we got snow, I suddenly loved Winter most of all. But this is a song about Autumn. It reminds me of the smells and sounds of the fall leaves as they crunched under my sneakers.
Verse
Our summer clothes are packed away
All Hallow’s Eve behind us
The final leaves of Autumn fall
November sky reminds us
Chorus
In the space before each ending
A new beginning waits
November gets us ready
For the snow Winter creates
Verse
A child outside reminds me
How much I loved November’s spark
Grabbing sweaters from the attic
And playing in the park
Chorus
In the space before each ending
A new beginning waits
November gets us ready
For the snow Winter creates
Bridge
I have never dreaded Winter
But it’s never been my friend
The cold, the snow, the yearning
Just wanting it to end
But I’ll embrace November
And the beauty it provides
Nature needs to rest now
Till Winter winds subside
