Sacrilege & Other Sacred Acts

These are lyrics that will get you kicked out of church. They are unholy hymns for the wholly unhinged. They are unrepentant, irreverent, and are likely to offend the easily offended. But offense is not the point, nor the goal of these lyrics; truth is.

Within these lyrics, I don’t just question religious belief, I interrogate the harm it has caused and the power structures it continues to uphold. I offer alternatives: find meaning in your own life. Don’t look to old mythology to define your worth or your path. Sacred books are not sacred. They are snapshots of ancient minds; beautiful, brutal, and bound by the fears of their time.

The Christian Bible was once the auction block from which enslaved people were sold. It forged the invisible chains that women still wear, sanctifying submission and silencing dissent. It has been used to justify genocide, colonialism, and the erasure of indigenous wisdom. And in the hands of the devoutly dogmatic, it can destroy the mind of a curious child, replacing wonder with fear, and inquiry with obedience.

These lyrics are not just critiques. They are rituals of reclamation. They are sacred acts in their own right: Acts of defiance, of liberation, of spiritual honesty. If you’ve ever felt the sting of exclusion, the weight of indoctrination, or the ache of unanswered questions, these lyrics are for you. Trigger warning: If you are offended, I’m not sorry
